Student Protection & Volunteer Requirements

At St Patrick’s, the safety and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. As a Catholic school, we are deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment where all children feel protected and valued.
Our approach to student protection is grounded in the belief that every person is made in the image of God. We strive to ensure that all students are free from harm and can thrive in a nurturing school community.

Why Volunteer Training Is Required

Volunteers play a vital role in enriching our school life—whether helping in the classroom, assisting at events, or supporting extracurricular activities. To ensure the safety of all students, volunteer training is mandatory for anyone wishing to assist at school or at school events.
This training helps volunteers understand their responsibilities, the importance of child safety, and the standards expected within our Catholic school environment.
In accordance with legislation, from 31 August 2020, schools must not engage any volunteer who is:
  • A negative notice holder or disqualified from holding a Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000
  • A person with a suspended Blue Card
  • A disqualified person under the Act
  • A person with a charge for a disqualifying offence
Additionally, volunteers who are not parents of current students must hold a valid Working With Children Blue Card.
